The Moravian Town of Roznov pod Radhostem hosted the XIVth International Military Folk Festival from 9 to 11 May 2006.

Fencing For Fun

A three-day folk festival Rožnovská valaška 2006 (Rožnov Hatchette) was held at the Little Wooden Town of the Valašské Museum in the Open and in the town of Rožnov pod Radhoštěm in the northeastern part of the Czech Republic. The traditional festival is sponsored by the Czech military, the Military Artistic Ensemble Ondráš from Brno, and the Townhall of Rožnov.

A variety of Czech and foreign folk ensembles presented national historical and folk dances and music. Through the past 14 years, the festival has become also a parade of national traditions. The Czech ensembles included the Military Artistic Ensemble Ondráš, ensembles Jasénka, Rosénka, Hradišťan, and Dunajec, children ensembles Klebetníček, Maleníček, Dunaječek, Malá Rosénka, and the Púčik Cymbalo Band, folk bands Frgál, Ondráš, and Radošov, the Fencing and Theatre Group of Zikmund Winter from Tábor, and an eighty-member ensemble of the Valašský Sbor Portášský Group of historical fencing.

The foreign ensembles included the Váh ensemble from Liptovský Mikuláš, the Slovak Republic, the Danzas Carúpano ensemble from Venezuela, and the Astghik ensemble from Armenia.

The Mayor of Rožnov Mr. Václav Mikušek welcomed a number of military representatives at the podium of the festival theatre.
