Floods: More than 300 Soldiers Deployed

In response to requests of towns' mayors and chiefs of Regions, soldiers keep helping people hit by devastating floods.

As seven (out of 14) Czech Republic's Chiefs of Regions declared a state of emergency on the territory of their regions Sunday 2 April 2006, hundreds of soldiers rotate in ongoing day-and-night assistance to Fire Rescue Corps, Police of the Czech Republic, and volunteers to rescue people from flooded homes and areas, and in fixing barriers at river banks.

The Minister of Defence of the Czech Republic Karel Kühnl, and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic Lieutenant General Pavel Štefka visited some water-stricken towns and areas.
