Military ranks, basic sleeve and cap badges

The basic military ranks at the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic are as follows:

Lieutenant General motive
  • Private (PVT)
  • Private First Class (PFC)
  • Corporal (CPL)
  • Sergeant (SGT)

Having met qualification requirements, a soldier is promoted to one of the following Corps of Ranks categories of either non-commissioned or commissioned officers.

  • Chief Warrant Officer (CW2)
  • Chief Warrant Officer (CW3)
  • Master Warrant Officer (MW4)

  • COMMISSIONED OFFICERS

    Junior Officer Corps

  • Second Lieutenant (2LT)
  • Lieutenant (LT)
  • First Lieutenant (1LT)
  • Captain (CPT)

  • Senior Officer Corps

  • Major (MAJ)
  • Lieutenant Colonel (LTC)
  • Colonel (COL)

  • GENERALS

    General Officer Corps

  • Brigadier General (BG)
  • Major General (MG)
  • Lieutenant General (LTG)
  • [Army] General ([A]GEN)

  • Following proposals made by the Government, Senior Commissioned Officers are promoted to Generals by the President of the Czech Republic; the promotion to other ranks is exercised by military authorities.
