Equipment Size in 2009

The numbers hereinafter include armament and combat equipment, which is as of the 1 January 2009 in possession of Czech armed forces regardless to its planned use, whether it is part of combat units or in storage facilities, its combat readiness, long or short-term conservation or offer for sale.

Participants to the Conventional Forces in Europe (CFE), the Vienna Document 1999 and the Global Exchange of Military Information mutually handed over the summary information on their armed forces in Vienna on the 11, 12, and 15 December 2008.

Notes:

  • Battle armoured vehicles include all battle versions of infanty fighting vehicles of types BMP-1, BMP-2, BPzV and armoured personnel carriers of types OT-90 and OT-64. The number does not include four pieces of OT-64 and 14 pieces of BMP-2 because they are deployed and used in a long term outside the zone of application of the above mentioned international documents.
  • Artillery systems of caliber 100 mm and more include all versions of cannon/howitzers of SPGH M77 Dana, rocket launchers RM 70, and mortars SPM-85 PRAM and M M1982.
  • In addition to armament and combat equipment, which size is limited by treaties, the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic also possess to the 1 January 2009 in accordance with CFE, VD-99 and the Global Exchange of Military Information the following items:
    • 12 pcs of training aircraft L-39,
    • 18 pcs of transport and observation aircraft of the following types L-410, An-26, Jak-40, CL-601 Challenger a A-319 CJ;
    • 43 pcs of transport and universal helicopters of the following types MI-8, MI-17 (also MI-171 Š), and W-3A Sokol;
    • 215 pcs of vehicles with special structures based on infantry fighting vehicles and armoured personnel carriers of various types;
    • 54 pcs of armoured vehicles of types BRDM2, Dingo 2, and IVECO, which are not subject to CFE and VD-99;
    • 34 pcs of medical vehicles, which are not subject to CFE and VD-99, and where stipulations apply of the Geneve Convention on improvement of conditions of injured and ill military personnel in the field that is dated 12 August 1949;
    • 10 pcs of bridge tanks MT-55A.
