The history of Prague garrison is closely connected with the military history of the city. Since the beginning of its history, Prague have fortified its limits against possible enemy attack. The command of Prague garrison has been set with establishment of permament army. The Prague´s Garrison Command has one of the longest traditions in Europe. Since 1621, the continuty of this command in Prague, the oldest in the Czech lands, and the garrison commander has never been interrupted.
The first commander of the Prague´s Garrison was Generalissimus Albrech Vaclav Eusebius, the Prince of Valdstein, the Duke of Frydlant. During centuries that followed, Prague has become the most important military garrison in the country and since 1918 it was a seat of central military authorities of independent Czechoslovakia.
After reorganisation on April 1, 2004, the Garrison Command of Prague was formed and moved to its new seat in Prague - Pod Juliskou.
The Command has assumed the badge, field battle flag and the honourary title of the Prague Uprising from disbanded 6th Support Base of the Ministry of Defence.
The Command is composed of the Guard of Honour of ACR, Central Band of ACR and the Military Band Olomouc. 3 min.
The president of the Czech Republic granted the field battle flag and the honourary title of the Prague Uprising to the Command on May 8, 2000.
- an oval symbolises a military mark, which is used on maps to describe a unit of regiment and higher,
- a green fringe of the oval symbolises reference to ground forces,
- colour – white and red colours of the Czech Republic prevail on the badge and symbolises that the unit operates over the whole country,
- knight´s arm in armored cladding, which holds a sword – it is part of a great badge of Prague and it symbolises location of the Garrison Command of Prague, which is the Capital Prague.
It has been a tradition to send a honorary unit to participate in ceremonies of various military units since the ancient era.
The first honorary unit after formation of the Czechoslovak Republik was the honorary company of traditional Prague´s Rifle Regiment No. 28. 5 min.
Military bands participate in ceremonies, acts of protocol, military events and concert performances. They represent the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic at the public both at home and abroad. 3 min.
During Word War II, he served both at western and eastern fronts, fighted also in the Slovak National Uprising.
