New Minister of Defence introduced to his office
Prime Minister of the Czech government Petr Necas introduced Dr. Alexandr Vondra to the office of Minister of Defence following appointment of new Czech government by President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Klaus on 13 July 2010.
Prime Minister Petr Necas in his speech said that Dr. Alexandr Vondra worked in foreign and security fields for almost twenty years and he represented high added value for the department of defence. At the same time he thanked outgoing minister Martin Bartak for his high-quality work.
Petr Necas confirmed that the department of defence faced difficult tasks. „Speaking about international commitments of the Czech Republic, we must remain a reliable partner, we must keep participating in foreign missions in a credible way. At the same time the defence department must be able to deal with budget restrictions and the process of broader transparency must go on in financial flows and in aquisition process.“
Dr. Alexandr Vondra in his opening speech as the Minister of Defence thanked the outgoing minister Martin Bartak for his work in favour of national defence of the country. He continued that we faced huge budget cuts but he did not want to put defence of this country in danger. "I don't want to cut into muscles, if cuts are necessary, so from fat. I don't want the cuts be done generaly and impair the lowest officer ranks."
The new defence minister stressed out that the defence department needed support from the public, without which it cannot generate the development of the mililtary, and at the same time it needed stability and guarantees for those who are serious about defence of the Czech Republic and its internatinal commitments.
