Merry Christmas and a happy and successful 2014
President of the Czech Republic and Supreme Commander of the Czech Armed Forces Milos Zeman, Minister of Defence Vlastimil Picek, and Chief of the General Staff of Armed Forces of the Czech Republic Lieutenant General Petr Pavel send video-messages to all defence personnel to Christmas Holidays and New Year 2014.
In his message, President Zeman expressed his deep gratitude for work of soldiers serving on foreign missions. He reminded that in time of the Spanish Civil War a saying that 'At Madrid, they fight for Prague' could be also applied to these days. "Anyone who fights against international terrorists, in Afghanistan or any other place, they fight for Prague. They fight for not penetrating the terrorists through our borders where they could endanger our towns, buildings, they fight to avert innocent civilian casualties."
In his Christmas and New Year message, minister Picek highlighted improvement of quality of soldiers' lives during this year and said that the ministry had hammered out a good agreement for further lease of Gripen aircraft supersonics with Sweden. He thanked for good work of sodiers and civilian personnel at the Ministry and at the Czech military in this year. Reminded a wide support of soldiers after this-year floods and good work of personnel serving abroad on operations with our allies. Minister said he was pleased to meet with war veterans in their Home at the Central Military Hospital in Prague, just days ago. honouring their merits for the Czech Republic.
General Pavel thanked to all soldiers for good work during just ending 2013 which was not easy for most of them. He spoke about reorganisation within the military that started this July, forming regiment-level system of command from a brigade system at most support units. He reminded that the upcoming year would bring new difficult challenges for all the personnel but he hoped all duties would go on in the same smooth way.
