Hundreds of children gather at a sporting event supported by the military

The 4th Nation-wide Final of the Versatility of Olympic Winners Badge sporting event was held at the Strahov Stadium in Prague on 6 and 7 September 2013. This annual project of Czech Olympic winners in decathlon Robert Zmelik and Roman Sebrle is aimed at support of sporting of the youth and is backed by the Czech military.

The capital of the Czech Republic hosts 618 children at the largest sports stadium in the country not only from national schools but also from Hungaria, Poland and Slovakia.

Soldiers from 22 military units participate in this sporting event for children - most of them as referees. Also active sportsmen and sportswomen from the Military Sports Club Dukla attend this year the competition as patrons of competing teams. The most of Czech sport champions started their career at this club.

Ms. Vera Caslavska, seven-times Olympic winner, officially opened the final which include 12 athletic events. Out of this number any child chooses ten events in which tries to score the most points. Winners receive bronze, silver, gold or diamond badges.

The opening ceremony was, among others, attended by Major General Miroslav Zizka, First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of ACR, Lenka Ptackova Melicharova, Deputy Ministr of Defence for Personnel, Milan Stech, Chairman of the Senate, Czech Parliament, and Czech sports legend Jarmila Kratochvilova, also Olympic champion with silver medal from Moscow, whose 800 m world record with 1:53,28 min. from athletic meeting in Muenchen keeps unbroken for more than 30 years.
