Czech Republic Armed Forces Re-Join EUFOR BiH

After two years, soldiers of the Czech Republic have been deployed back to Bosnia and Herzegovina to serve on the European Union mission.

On 9th June 2010, the return of soldiers from the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic was marked at an official flag raising ceremony at HQ of EUFOR, Camp Butmir, Sarajevo. The Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Bosnia and Herzegovina, His Excellency Tomas Szunyog accompanied by Brigadier General Jan Kase Chief of NATO Military Liaison Office in Belgrade, attended to mark the occasion.

Commander of EUFOR, Major General Bernhard Bair, warmly welcomed the return of the Czech personnel under his command and noted that the total number of nations contributing to Operation ALTHEA now stands at 26. The two personnel from the Czech Republic will focus initially on providing training and capacity building support to the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

COM EUFOR and the Ambassador concluded their day by laying a wreath to fallen comrades from the Czech Republic in the Operation ALTHEA Memorial Garden at Camp Butmir.
