Czech contributions to EU are highly appreciated

”Contributions of the Czech Republic, both past and present, are highly appreciated and they will not be forgotten. The Czech Republic is very active in this regard as well as in the development of EU institutions and capabilities," General Patrick de Rousiers said after meeting Czech CHOD, General Petr Pavel.

During his two-day visit to the Czech Republic, General de Rousiers, the Chairman of the European Union Military Committee, had a call with the Minister of Defence, Martin Stropnicky, the MoD State Secretary Daniel Kostoval and Lieutenant General Petr Pavel, the Chief of the General Staff. He also met with the management of the University of Defence in Brno and had a debate with Czech military students who have participated in the Erasmus programme to study abroad.

At the Ministry of Defence, the topics discussed included the Czech contribution to the EU Training Mission in Mali and implementation of the conclusions of the December European Council meeting.

As part of the welcome ceremony, General de Rousiers and General Pavel laid a wreath to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the National Memorial at Vitkov in Prague on Thursday, 6 February 2014.

French Air Force General Patrick de Rousiers was appointed the Chairman of the European Union Military Committee on 6 November 2012. General Petr Pavel attends sessions of the EU Military Committee together with Major General Jiri Baloun, the Czech Military Representative to NATO and the EU.
