Personal Details

Married, mother of two sons.


After studying at an English secondary school, she graduated from the Law Faculty of Charles University in Prague.

Professional and Public Activity

Karolína Peake worked as a clerk at the law offices of Baker&McKenzie.

Since 2006, she has been a councilwoman for Prague 1.

In 2010, she was elected to the Chamber of Deputies for the Veci Verejne [Public Affairs] party and was appointed Chairwoman of the Constitutional Law Committee. From April to July 2011, she was the chairwoman of Veci Verejne's parliamentary club.

As a member of parliament, she is actively involved in creation of the government's anti-corruption strategy for 2011 and 2012, has taken part in amendments on arbitation hearings, amendments to the criminal code, an amendment to the law on conflicts of interest, the topic of strengthening independence and at the same time responsibility for state prosecutors and judges, and the direct election of the president.

She has two sons, for whom she devoted a total of five years of family leave - during which she co-founded a maternal center, along with other mothers from Prague 1. It was through issues relating to children and childrens' playgrounds that she got involved in local politics and the Veci Verejne party.

She has been the Deputy Prime Minister since 1 July 2011 and the chairwoman of the Legislative Council of the Government of the Czech Republic and the the chairwoman of the Government Anti-Corruption Committee since 14 July 2011.

In April 2012, she decided to leave Veci Verejne, and with colleagues established a new political party, LIDEM - Liberal Democrats.

On the 12th December 2012, she was appointed the Minister of Defence.
