Chief of the Supreme Staff of the Czechoslovak Defence Force

In 1915, he became an officer of the Austria-Hungarian Army. A year later, he entered the Serbian Volunteer Division and later the Czechoslovak Legions in Russia. Since 1935, he was in position of the 2nd Deputy Chief of the Supreme Staff of the Czechoslovak Defence Power. During the Munich Crisis, he was in position of the Chief of the Supreme Staff of the Czechoslovak Defence Force from 24 September to 4 October 1938. After Nazi Occupation of the Czechoslovak Republic he led from March to December 1039 the dismissal of the Supreme Staff. In 1947, he retired.
